Growth in tablet PC usage has been exponential since the arrival of the iPad in 2010. While InformationLeader has been used on tablet PCs for years prior to the iPad’s release, the affordabilitiy and popularity of tablet sized/styled devices has greatly increased since then.
One of the key design decisions was to make sure that InformationLeader v5 looks and works great on tablet style devices. In this post, we look at two key features that are helping us do this.
The first new feature we added (after making sure the application loaded and worked!) was to increase the flexibility of our electronic forms on smaller screens. We did this by allowing form designers to have scaling sizes on their form items – this means that each element will take into account the screen size and adjust its width accordingly! This makes sure that forms look great on either desktop users with large screens or a user viewing/entering information on a tablet device with a much smaller screen.
The second thing that we did was to make sure that we had ‘touch friendly’ controls. All the menus and navigation items were re-developed to make sure they worked with a mouse, a stylus, or your fingers on a screen. We made sure that you can use your iDevice or Android tablet to capture handwritten signatures. And because we realise how terrible typing on a touchscreen is, we added customisable ‘button’ controls to make data entry, report generation, and saving a form faster and easier than ever.
