One of our key goals in InformationLeader was to increase the usability of the system by integrating with existing software investments.
This extends to compatibility hardware devices and systems that help users perform their jobs faster and with greater accuracy. In today’s post, we’re going to focus on two devices – a pH and temperature probe, and a handheld scanner.
The ‘compliance probe’ is a device originally developed for the UK market. It combines pH and temperature probes, and transmits the data via bluetooth to a portable computing device (laptop or tablet PC), which then allows us to grab the information directly with the probe and relate them for the day’s checks. This simplifies things for the operator while increasing the accuracy of the captured information by removing double entry and getting the information straight from the probe.
Handheld scanners are a fixture in many production environments. They allow for the immediate entry of data from barcodes/label on pallets and are usually used to store information back into production systems for inventory or stock control.
With InformationLeader v5 we’ve introduced web services that allow us to interact with external systems or custom applications.
One such application we put together is iLocateBoxes, a custom application that allows users to locate physical materials related to records stored in InformationLeader. Previously, paper records were maintained of where materials were stored and it was a tedious process of matching electronic InformationLeader records with the paper records to locate where in the warehouse the related material was located. Now, users can use scanners to locate the material immediately, and logging material into the system is as easy as selecting the desired InformationLeader record and scanning the barcode of the boxed material.
